{Playlist} Cheers to a Happy New Year!

Peace out 2011! Like the rest of the world and buzz that I hear, I can't believe another year has come and gone. Personally this year has been nothing short of amazing between getting married and moving into the house we built so I have so much to be thankful for. I am also beyond excited that my 2012 is shaping up to be pretty fantastic as well! New Years Eve wouldn't be complete without family, friends, cocktails and a kick ass playlist. Whether you are ready to rock the dance floor or just have some tuneage going in the background, I think this playlist has a little something for everyone! (Until I find a program that will let me actually play and share music on blogger, this will have to do. If there is a song you just have to have, shoot me an email at amanda@fatcatdjandkaraoke.com and I will be more than happy to shoot it to you)

To kick off the list I have to tell you to listen/watch this DJ Earworm mash up immediately. If I could be as skilled as him, I wouldn't know what to do with myself.

{Re-Play Thursday} Different People - No Doubt

HAPPY THURSDAY!!

This week's Re-Play Thursday song has to be one of the most well written songs I have yet to come across. It just so happens to be performed by my favorite band in the entire world, No Doubt. It is from their Tragic Kingdom album and in addition to me playing this entire album over and over again since 5th grade, this song is easily a go-to for when I need a pick me up, inspiration or just a feel good song to sing along to. Take a listen, you will not be disappointed!

Things can be broken down

In this world of ours
You don't have to be a famous person
Just to make your mark
A mother can be an inspiration
To her little son
Change his thoughts, his mind, his life
Just with her gentle hum, hum

So different, yet so the same
Two sisters only have their parents to blame
It's rare that two can get along
But when they do, they're inseparable
Such a blessing comes to few, few

The sky is full of clouds and my world's full of people
You got the different kinds, with different ways
It would take a lifetime to explain
No one's the same

He and she, two different people
With two separate lives
Then you put the two together
You get a spectacular surprise
'Cause one can teach the other one
What she doesn't know
While still the other fills a place inside
He never knew had room to grow, grow, grow, grow, grow

The sky is full of clouds and my world's full of people
You got the different kinds, with different ways
It would take a lifetime to explain
No one's the same

Once in a while I sit back
And think about the planet
And most of the time I trip on it
To kick back and think about
How massive it all is
Well, how many others are on it, yeah

I often think about the world
In which I live today
Of animals and plants
And nature's gift set on display
But the most amazing thing
That I've seen in my time
Are all the different people
And all their different minds, minds, minds, minds

And different ways
It would take a lifetime to explain
No one's exactly the same

So many different people
So many different kinds
So many, many, many different people
So many different
Look at me, I'm a person
Look at me, I'm my own person
So many different people
And so many different kinds
For better or for worse, different people

{Re-Play Thursday} Hello - Martin Solveig and Dragonette

I have to admit, I'm obsessed with this song. I am am also obsessed with the recent wave of indie/poptronic woman singers popping on the charts (Hello Florence and The Machine!) because I am a advocate for strong females in the music industry that do not rely on Pro Tools or their bodies to make/sell music. Dragonette is a Canadian group that is kinda blowing up the scene right now with this song "Hello" and them teaming up with french DJ/Producer Martin Solveig makes me love this song even more!

I could stick around and get along with you
Hello oh-oh-oh-oh
It doesn't really mean that I'm into you
Hello oh-oh-oh-oh

You're alright but I'm here darling to enjoy the party
Don't get too excited cause that's all you'll get from me

Hey

Yeah I think you're cute but really you should know
I just came to say hello
Hello
Hello
Hello oh oh oh oh!

I'm not the kinda girl who'd get messed up with you
Hello ho-ho-ho-ho
I'ma let you try to convince me too
Hello oh oh oh oh

It's alright I'm getting dizzy just enjoy the party
It's OK with me if you don't have that much to say
Hey

Kinda like this game but there's something you should know
I just came to say
Hello

Hey

I could stick around and get along with you
Hello oh oh oh oh
It doesn't really mean that I'm into you
Hello oh oh oh oh

(you're alright but I'm here darling to enjoy the party)
(you're alright but I'm here darling to enjoy the party)
(you're alright but I'm here darling to enjoy the party)
(you're alright but I'm here darling to enjoy the party)
(you're alright but I'm here darling to enjoy the party)
(you're alright but I'm here darling to enjoy the party)
(you're alright but I'm here darling to enjoy the party)
(you're alright but I'm here darling to enjoy the party)
(you're alright but I'm here darling to enjoy the party)
(you're alright but I'm here darling to enjoy the party)
(you're alright but I'm here darling to enjoy the party)

Hey

I just came to say hello
Hello
Hello
Hello oh-oh-oh-oh

I'm not the kinda girl who'd get messed up with you
Hello oh-oh-oh-oh
I'ma let you try to convince me to
Hello oh-oh-oh-oh

It's alright I'm getting dizzy just enjoy the partyyyy
It's OK with me if you don't have that much to say
Hey

Kinda like this game but there's something you should know
I just came to say hello

Hey

The lyrics aren't incredibly fascinating or deep but seriously the beats have to make you wanna dance!?! Am I right?!?!

Enjoy!

{Re-Play Thursday} Sugar Town - Zooey Deschanel

Welcome to the first Re-Play Thursday Post! Every week I will highlight a song, along with lyrics, that I just can't get enough of and why. Since I pride myself on having a sporadic musical preference, you will never know what you are gonna get! ;) I'm hoping by posting these songs, I can move onto the next one that much quicker because I really do overplay my favorite song of the moment into the ground. Am I the only one to do ever do that?

I have to start this post series with a song that I came across when I watched the movie "500 Days of Summer". I had heard the song "Sugar Town" before when the lovely Nancy Sinatra first voiced it back in 1967. It's catchy, bouncy and just a flat out fun song

I got some troubles but they won't last
I'm gonna lay right down here in the grass
And pretty soon all my troubles will pass
'cause I'm in shoo-shoo-shoo, shoo-shoo-shoo
Shoo-shoo, shoo-shoo, shoo-shoo Sugar Town

I never had a dog that liked me some
Never had a friend or wanted one
So I just lay back and laugh at the sun
'cause I'm in shoo-shoo-shoo, shoo-shoo-shoo
Shoo-shoo, shoo-shoo, shoo-shoo Sugar Town

Yesterday it rained in Tennessee
I heard it also rained in Tallahassee
But not a drop fell on little old me
'cause I was in shoo-shoo-shoo, shoo-shoo-shoo
Shoo-shoo, shoo-shoo, shoo-shoo Sugar Town

If I had a million dollars or ten
I'd give to ya, world, and then
You'd go away and let me spend
My life in shoo-shoo-shoo, shoo-shoo-shoo
Shoo-shoo, shoo-shoo, shoo-shoo Sugar Town

Tell me you won't re-play this sugar coated classic <3 I hope you

enjoyed it!!

{Events} Mr. and Mrs. Ben and Devin Applewhite

The atmosphere of the reception hall when I walked in walk the calm before the storm. All the details were set in place and the classy and edgy colors of red, black and white were strewn about. The photo booth was all set up and the candles were lit. In a mere couple hours, the room would be filled with family and friends that would have the most obvious and contagious love for the couple that I had the privilege to be a part of. As soon as the wedding party arrived I fell in love because the ladies had on black dresses with bright red heels and the guys wore black converse with their suits. SWOON! The night went on to have touching toasts, fun photo booths pics and a version of "Shout" that did Animal House proud :)

[Events} Mr. and Mrs. Thomas and Erin Weniger

It was one of the most romantic proposal stories I have ever heard. I was sitting with Tom and Erin, meeting with them for the first time, and listening to how he asked Erin to be his wife. They both went to the College of William and Mary and about to graduate and embark on their new journey as physical therapists in Florida. "We had talked about marriage before so that element was NOT a surprise", says Erin with a infectious smile, "I just didn't know when the 'question' would be popped!" During graduation madness, he arranged it all down to the last detail. One morning after a big college party, he had wanted to take his lady to breakfast. She just went along with it and her roommates said they would all meet up later. As they were walking, Tom led Erin along a path in the woods that led to the Crim Dell bridge, which has a old saying that if you cross the bridge with your partner, you will have a lasting partnership/marriage. (AWWW!) So they walk up and she sees a couple of guys on the bridge jamming out on some acoustic guitars. Nothing out of the ordinary for around campus. Then all of a sudden they start playing "All You Need Is Love" by the Beatles and family and friends start coming from within the woods!!!!!!!!! SWOON!!!! As they all start singing along and the guitarists play a medley of other favorite songs of the couple, Tom proclaims his love for Erin and asks her to spend the rest of their lives together.........sigh. So amazing. I just loved hearing this story from them and seeing the memories reflect in their eyes.

The more we sat and talked the more I realized this would not be another ordinary wedding reception! Everything from a Best Man toast that will be a SNL skit to the bride's grandfather's Barber Shop quartet performing, I was just beyond excited for the day to get here. I know I wasn't the only one excited because the moment I saw them at their reception, I knew they were in utter blissful happiness. I knew it would be a super reception :)

Fuzzy picture? Warm and fuzzy more like it!

This kid owned the dance floor. He had every girl out there twirling and flipping...it was killer!

AHHH! I wanted to hug and kiss all of them! Aren't they just adorable!!!

<3 They were so wonderful!

Little sneak peak of their performance!

They wanted every single group participation dance out there! We covered the Hokey Pokey to the Cupid Shuffle...and they loved every second!

Split the crown for some runway action! They were naturals :)

All in all, it was an amazing time! Right now they are relaxing in Disney World (jealous!!). CONGRATS YOU GUYS! Good luck in Florida and can't wait to see what amazing things you guys do next!

{Events} CSM Joe Burke's Welcome Home Party

I have known Joe's wife, Jolene, for several years as she is a popular real estate agent in the Williamsburg area! She started planning a welcome home party for her husband Joe when she knew he would be returning home from a year's deployment overseas. When I first heard about this, I was crossing my fingers and toes hoping I would be able to DJ for this event. Who wouldn't want to be around such JOY and LOVE?! Seeing a loved one come home from deployment is like none other. When I first arrived to set up for this event, I was greeted by hundreds of small American Flags that were lining the driveway and a huge "Welcome Home CMS Joe Burke! We missed you!" sign. It maybe gave me goosebumps, that is all I am saying. I was giddy with excitement when I walked in and saw the entire place decorated to the nines and it looked like the American flag exploded with sparkles of red, white and blue everywhere! It was perfect!

The entire time I was setting up, I was going over the couples requests for the evenings selections and I realized it was going to be a pretty fun evening...

Have I Told You Lately - Van Morrison
Brown Eyed Girl - Van Morrison
Simply Red - If You Dont Know Me By Now
Amos Lee - Arms of a Woman
Frank Sinatra - My Way
Frank Sinatra - The Best is Yet To Come
Marvin Gaye/Tammy Terrell - Aint No Mountain High Enough
Supremes - Stop! In The Name of Love
Temptations - My Girl
Bachman Turner Overdrive - Takin Care of Business
Lynard Skynard - Sweet Home Alabama
Robert Palmer - Bad Case of Loving You
Barry White - Cant Get Enough Of Your Love
Peaches & Herb - Shake Your Groove Thang
Carpenters - We have Only Just Begun
Etta James - At Last
The Rightouse Brothers - Unchained Melody
Nelly - Hot In Herre
Madonna - Vogue
Grank Funk Railroad - We're An American Band
The Four Tops - Cant Help Myself
Mary Wells - My Guy
James Brown - Papas Got A Brand New Bag

How can you NOT have a good time with these songs sprinkled into the playlist? I really think I was singing along to every song, I gotta tell ya.

At one point in the evening, I put on "Vogue" by Madonna and had them split the crowd so everyone could dance down the middle and show off their moves...

This lady OWNED it.

Oh yea..she is on the ground. Hands and legs up in the air. Can you guess what song was on?

Jolene was actually doing "Vogue"! It was GREAT.

These girls and I were on point all night. They would come up to request a song and three different times the exact song they requested, I had NEXT in the line up. It was freaky. (They are rocking the "Sprinkler" right here...classic. ha.)
How CUTE are they? <3

Fuzzy picture but I had to include it. They were dancing fools! In line with every step.

Such a great evening and I hope that the memories were priceless for everyone there. I know Joe and Jolene had a wonderful time dancing and seeing all of their friends and families! Joe? Jolene? I have said this many times. It was a HONOR being there and I hope we can work together again in the future!
